Bear Valley: San Lorenzo, Farrapona, Cordal y Cobertoria

The brown bear, the animal which best represents Asturias outside its borders, enjoys a perfect habitat among the valleys and mountains of Q, T & S, and this tour offers you a marvellous route along the prettiest roads threading through the areas which still constitute its daily habitat

We propose two magnificent stages with mountain passes which will make you give up your best efforts.  Linking the passes of San Lorenzo, La Farrapona, el Cordal and la Cobertoria just like the professionals racing the Spanish Vuelta year after year, this is a project which will certainly satisfy any cycling tourist.

The first stage ende in Ppla de Somiedo, where we will rest in the very heart of the Natural Park of Somiedo, declared a Biosphere Reserve.  The Vaqueira tradition of the local people (seasonal & highland cattle farmers) offers us the best gastronomy and the best possible reception, where you will feel completely at home.  You will be amazed by these landscapes unaltered by the passage of time, where thatched cabins blend in perfectly with the purest and wildest nature still to be found in Europe.

Sábado:SaturdayOviedo (Las Caldas) – Farrapona (Pola de Somiedo)

This beautiful route sets out from the capital of the Principality of Asturias, threading through the green valleys of Proaza and Teverga.  With the asent to the legendary mountain pass of San Lorenzo a hard-won prelude to the Heights of Farrapona, where the local vaqueiros bring their cows to pasture in summer.  Two epic thresholds from the Spanish Vuelta in the same day!

Domingo: Sunday: Pola de Somiedo – Oviedo (Las Caldas)

On the second day w ego through the other side of San Lorenzo, allowing you to discover for yourselves whether  the ascent up this giant in the tracks of the Vuelta of 2011 or 2012 is indeed harder.

The pretty ride through the Quiros valley takes us to the other side of the Aramo mountain range, passing through another mountain pass which has become a classic of the Spanish Tour, the Heights of the Cobertoria.  Your legs will have to continue working until we get back to the capital of the Principality of Asturias, because the Cordal pass and the REPECHOS along the Foz require hard pedal power.

A marvellous route through the central mountain range of Asturias!
